The Hemission line in a typical Type I quasar is composed of a broad base and a narrow core, with the core velocity characteristic of narrow-line region emission, and line-fitting routines typically assume this picture. We test the effects of removing this constraint, and find a substantial group of Type I quasars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey catalog with Hemission line cores broader than 1200 km s 1 , above the velocity believed possible for gas in the quasar narrow-line region. We identify…

Do Anomalous Narrow Line Quasars Cast Doubt on Virial Mass Estimation
- 2011
Physics
Anomalous Narrow-Line Quasars (ANLs) are a population of quasars with narrow H\beta, and sometimes [O III] broader than ~1000 km/s, in total comprising \sim 10-30% (most likely ~25%) of Type I…

Changing-look quasars are a recently identified class of active galaxies in which the strong UV continuum and/or broad optical hydrogen emission lines associated with unobscured quasars either appear…
ERQs are the BOSS of quasar samples: the highest velocity [O iii] quasar outflows
- 2019
Physics
We investigate extremely red quasars (ERQs), a remarkable population of heavily reddened quasars at redshift z ∼ 2−3 that might be caught during a short-lived ‘blow-out’ phase of quasar/galaxy…
Discovery of extreme [O III] λ5007 Å outflows in high-redshift red quasars

Black hole feedback is now a standard component of galaxy formation models. These models predict that the impact of black hole activity on its host galaxy likely peaked at z=2-3, the epoch of…
Quasar feedback and the origin of radio emission in radio-quiet quasars

Physics
We conduct kinematic analysis of the SDSS spectra of 568 obscured luminous quasars, with the emphasis on the kinematic structure of the [OIII]5007 emission line. [OIII] emission tends to show…
UV spectral diagnostics for low redshift quasars: estimating physical conditions and radius of the broad line region

The UV spectral range (1100–3000 Å) contains the strongest resonance lines observed in active galactic nuclei (AGN). Analysis of UV line intensity ratios and profile shapes in quasar spectra provide…

In this report, we find the MBH estimated from the formalism ofWang et al. are more consistent with those from the MBH-σ* relation than those from previous single-epoch mass estimators, using a large…
